Meeting 9AM - 4PM: Woodturners Field Day -- This year's annual Turning Day will again be hosted by The Dogwood Institute School of Fine Woodworking in Alpharetta, Georgia. See details.

Turning Day at Dogwood--A Free Event! Turning Day will once again be hosted by THE DOGWOOD INSTITUTE SCHOOL OF FINE WOODWORKING in Alpharetta, Georgia. The studio and woodworking school is located in Alpharetta on 13 acres which hosts a barn that has a spacious turning facility and another 4,000 square foot barn currently being renovated into the woodworking school. This barn will contain a classroom with 18 benches, an equipment room, steam bending capabilities, education area with video camera and wide screen TV as well as a well furnished library. The school overlooks gardens, an orchard, and pasture with horses and is a picturesque environment in which to work and learn. Most courses offered have been full and at times had a waiting list.

Turning Day at Dogwood will feature well-known turners demonstrating their techniques. Also, other activities will be available for those wishing to see demonstrations of woodworking techniques other than turning. Barbeque will again be the food of choice and served for a nominal fee. Once again, the ice cream will be provided compliments of Woodcraft.

The customary “Tailgate Tool Swap and Sale” will be highlighted and plenty of room for the trucks to display any tool, wood or just about anything for swap or sale. We encourage more of this activity this year as we have plenty of space. Bring those old tools that you no longer have a use for! A display area will be made available for those who wish to “show and tell” some of their projects. Please encourage individuals of all levels of expertise to bring those treasures to share with other craftsmen. We will also have an area designated for beginners who would like to know more about woodturning or woodworking. Several craftsmen will be available to answer questions, demonstrate and allow potential turners try their skills on the mini-lathe. Information about the different guilds will be displayed.

DIRECTIONS: Go to our website www.dogwoodwoodworking.com and click on “DIRECTIONS” on the sidebar and information will be displayed as to how to get to the school. If you use MapQuest, our address is 1640 Mid-Broadwell Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30004. If you do not have access to a computer, call us at 770-751-9571 or toll free 1-800-533-2440 and we can provide directions. Please help us make this a fun and well-attended event by getting this information out to all of your woodturning/woodworker friends and plan on attending. It is free of charge and you will have the opportunity to be with others that have a love for wood.
