September’s pre-meeting program will be by new member Elizabeth “Snookie” McKinnon on patterned end grained cutting boards. Snookie was first introduced to woodworking by her first boss (who was a friend of her Grandfather) after graduating from High School in 1966. She fell in love with the smell of wood and the beauty of the finished product. For several years she was unable to pursue woodworking because she was kept busy getting married, relocating to another state, and raising a family. In 2008 she learned about Cove Creek Woodworking in Jasper, Georgia. Snookie started taking lessons there and rapidly rekindled her love affair with woodworking. Since then, she has built her own stand alone shop and developed a successful business selling end grained patterned cutting boards. Despite being a hard sell, Snookie is constantly recruiting more women into woodworking. She will demonstrate cutting, assembling, and finishing techniques for producing patterned end grained cutting boards. |
